Local Government Election Results

These are the results based on my examination of the returns as of Wednesday afternoon. There may be errors. The changes are from the time of the 2022 election. Baltimore City does not elect its Mayor and City Council at the same time as the rest of us.

The Democrats made striking gains in Frederick County, where they easily defended a county executive thought to be vulnerable on the data center issue. They also picked up a council seat and three ministerial offices. Democrats appear to have narrowly won the race for county executive in Wicomico County, though one should wait for the final returns here, and also picked up two council seats.

Democrats now control of all county executive offices except in Harford where Bob Casilly won reelection. There are five African American county executives. Howard and Montgomery each elected African Americans for the second time, though Vanessa Atterbury is the first African American woman in Howard. Julian Jones became Baltimore County’s first African American county exec.

Considering the blue-nami that washed across the country, Republicans did well to pick up some council seats and ministerial offices in Southern Maryland and on the Eastern Shore. While Dan Cox once again lost in a landslide to Gov. Wes Moore, he narrowed the gap a tad based on the preliminary results.

State Legislative Election Results Table

These are the results based on my examination of the returns as of Wednesday afternoon. There may be errors.

Not a single seat in the State Senate changed from one party to the other yesterday. In the House of Delegates, Democrats picked up two seats, notably Chuck Cook won in District 33B and Josh Hastings won in District 38B.

All of the split delegations are in legislative districts that have two or three subdistricts instead of election all of their members at-large as occurs in most LDs.

Again, this was done quickly on the fly but I love new election data so I thought I said hello again after giving up blogging.
