{"id":9672,"date":"2018-02-26T21:18:15","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T02:18:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=9672"},"modified":"2018-02-26T21:31:02","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T02:31:02","slug":"a-quick-note-on-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=9672","title":{"rendered":"A Quick Note on Candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Adam Pagnucco.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A few interesting things popped up in candidate filings today.<\/p>\n<p>Krish Vignarajah has still not filed for Governor.\u00a0 Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz has filed, but his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/local\/md-politics\/former-montgomery-lawmaker-valerie-ervin-to-join-kamenetz-gubernatorial-ticket\/2018\/02\/21\/6c9e354e-1716-11e8-92c9-376b4fe57ff7_story.html?utm_term=.087904d13995\">announced running mate<\/a>, former Montgomery County Council Member Valerie Ervin, is not listed on his filing.<\/p>\n<p>Grace Rivera-Oven, who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bethesdamagazine.com\/Bethesda-Beat\/2018\/Trone-Campaign-Undergoes-Staff-Changes-After-Political-Director-Resigns\/\">was the Political Director of David Trone&#8217;s campaign for Congress<\/a>, filed to run for Council At-Large on February 26.\u00a0 She has started a traditional campaign finance account.<\/p>\n<p>Jarrett Smith, who is a <a href=\"https:\/\/takomaparkmd.gov\/government\/city-council\/ward-5\/\">current member of the Takoma Park City Council<\/a>, filed to run for Council At-Large on February 23.\u00a0 Smith was <a href=\"https:\/\/takomaparkmd.gov\/news-alert\/2017-election-results\/\">reelected to the City Council in November<\/a> and will not have to leave his seat to campaign for county office.\u00a0 Smith has started a traditional financing account.<\/p>\n<p>Kenge\u00a0Malikidogo-Fludd has filed for County Council District 5.\u00a0 Bethesda Magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bethesdamagazine.com\/Bethesda-Beat\/2018\/Candidate-Files-To-Challenge-Hucker-in-Silver-Spring-Based-Council-District-5\/\">previously reported<\/a> that Kevin Harris is running against incumbent Tom Hucker.\u00a0\u00a0Malikidogo-Fludd is using public financing, as is Harris, while Hucker has not yet opened a public financing account.\u00a0 However,\u00a0Malikidogo-Fludd&#8217;s listed address is in Germantown, which is not in District 5.<\/p>\n<p>Jaye Espy, who was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bethesdamagazine.com\/Bethesda-Beat\/2018\/Politics-Roundup-Jaye-Espy-Scion-of-Noted-Political-Family-Makes-Her-First-Run-for-Elected-Office\/\">running for Delegate in District 15<\/a>, withdrew from the race on February 21.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Carhart of Rockville filed for District 18 Senate on February 22.\u00a0 Delegate Jeff Waldstreicher and Dana Beyer, who has run for Senate and House unsuccessfully in the past, are also running.\u00a0 Carhart&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/michellecarhart.com\">website<\/a> is inactive at this writing.<\/p>\n<p>Filing closes at 9 PM tomorrow night.\u00a0 There may be more news in store by then!<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: an earlier version of this post reported that Jarrett Smith had not yet established a campaign account.\u00a0 We apologize for the error.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adam Pagnucco.
