{"id":9575,"date":"2018-02-23T07:00:03","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T12:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=9575"},"modified":"2018-02-22T20:07:16","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T01:07:16","slug":"seiu-local-500-to-endorse-five-in-moco-races","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=9575","title":{"rendered":"SEIU Local 500 To Endorse Five in MoCo Races"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Adam Pagnucco.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SEIU Local 500, one of the largest unions in Maryland, will be endorsing five candidates in MoCo races soon.\u00a0 The local&#8217;s membership of more than 8,000 is concentrated among MCPS support staff, adjunct college faculty and child care workers.\u00a0 It has one of the most aggressive political operations in the state and its endorsement is highly valued in MoCo.<\/p>\n<p>At this time, the local will be endorsing:<\/p>\n<p>Marc Elrich for County Executive<\/p>\n<p>Gabe Albornoz, Ashwani Jain and Will Jawando for Council At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Ben Shnider for Council District 3<\/p>\n<p>The union has not decided on an endorsement yet in Council District 1 and may announce one later.\u00a0 It has postponed endorsement decisions for incumbent Council Members outside District 3 pending further actions of the council.\u00a0 Since MCPS accounts for a significant portion of the local&#8217;s membership, budget decisions on the schools may impact the union&#8217;s thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the endorsees.\u00a0 To be continued!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adam Pagnucco.
