Specifically, he failed to show up for court and left his client unrepresented, and also employed a disbarred lawyer without the appropriate required notice.<\/p>\n<p>Ficker blamed a conflict and communication problems with the judge&#8217;s office for why the judge didn&#8217;t know that he wouldn&#8217;t appear. Did the client know that Ficker was leaving in the lurch? On the second violation, <a href=\"http:\/\/thedailyrecord.com\/2017\/07\/07\/robin-ficker-reprimand-court-of-appeals\/\">Ficker plead ignorance of the law<\/a> as his excuse:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI did not know about that rule. There was not a single Maryland case which had ever mentioned that rule or any ruling by the Maryland Court of Appeals,\u201d Ficker said, adding that he stays up to date on developments in the state\u2019s highest court.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ficker is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=6867\">frequent flier at the Court of Appeals for ethics violations<\/a> and has been previously suspended from the practice of law. When Ficker was suspended in 2007, one judge wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"a\">If disbarment <span class=\"l6\">is not warranted in this case for these types of issues, wi<span class=\"l8\">th a respondent<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\"> with this history, it will n<span class=\"l8\">ever be warranted. If it is never <span class=\"l6\">going to be warranted in these <\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">types of cases, we should modify <span class=\"l12\">the rules to say so.
