The county board of elections will now begin verifying signatures.  The group needs 10,000 valid signatures to get its charter amendment on the ballot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group&#8217;s raw signature count is not that different from the raw counts submitted by Robin Ficker for his 2016 term limits amendment (<a href=\"https:\/\/bethesdamagazine.com\/bethesda-beat\/politics\/ficker-claims-to-have-18000-signatures-for-term-limits-petition\/\">more than 18,000<\/a>) and his current anti-tax amendment (<a href=\"https:\/\/bethesdamagazine.com\/bethesda-beat\/government\/ficker-delivers-petition-signatures-in-drive-for-property-tax-limit\/\">more than 16,000<\/a>).  Both of those amendments qualified for the ballot and the term limits amendment passed.  Maryland&#8217;s petition signature requirements are tough and some petitions that might appear to qualify at first glance have been thrown out.  (For example, Ficker&#8217;s term limits petition was <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.washingtonpost.com\/annapolis\/2010\/09\/judge_denies_appeal_over_signa.html\">blocked in 2010<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nine Districts&#8217; petition cover sheet is reprinted below.
