Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/msa.maryland.gov\/msa\/mdmanual\/43const\/html\/11aar.html\">state&#8217;s constitution<\/a>, a charter amendment proposed by voters must receive valid signatures from not less than 20% of registered voters or at least 10,000 voters.  The group&#8217;s Facebook post appears below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"678\" height=\"370\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Nine-Districts-15k-Signatures.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Nine-Districts-15k-Signatures.png 678w, https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Nine-Districts-15k-Signatures-300x164.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 678px) 100vw, 678px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.maryland.gov\/elections\/2020\/2020%20Election%20Calendar%20Revised.pdf\">original deadline<\/a> for receipt of petition signatures was Monday, July 27.  However, the State Board of Elections <a href=\"https:\/\/elections.maryland.gov\/petitions\/2020-02%20SBE%20policy%20-%20petition%20deadline%20extension.pdf\">extended the deadline by one week due to the COVID-19 crisis<\/a>, meaning that the group may submit its signatures to the county on Monday, August 3.  The county board of elections must then verify the signatures to ensure that the 9 district charter amendment qualifies for the ballot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group&#8217;s declaration was shared on Facebook by the Parents&#8217; Coalition of Montgomery County, the Montgomery County Republican Club, the Republican District 16 Team, the Conservative Club of Maryland and former Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman Mark Uncapher.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adam Pagnucco.
