{"id":11340,"date":"2018-06-26T20:00:03","date_gmt":"2018-06-27T00:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=11340"},"modified":"2018-06-26T18:23:03","modified_gmt":"2018-06-26T22:23:03","slug":"the-washington-post-ballots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=11340","title":{"rendered":"The Washington Post Ballots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Adam Pagnucco.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Two ballots were handed out today announcing county-level endorsements by the Washington Post.<\/p>\n<p>The first one shows all of the Post&#8217;s endorsements for County Executive, County Council and Board of Education.\u00a0 It has an authority line from David Blair&#8217;s campaign.\u00a0 We hear that several other Post-endorsed campaigns distributed it in addition to Blair&#8217;s people.\u00a0 The presence of an authority line makes it legal and the fact that it included all the county Post endorsements, not just some, is fair.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Legit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11342\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Legit.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Legit.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Legit-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second one shows just four of the Post&#8217;s endorsements: County Executive (Blair), Council At-Large (Evan Glass and Marilyn Balcombe) and Council District 1 (Andrew Friedson).\u00a0 The other two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/the-posts-endorsements-for-montgomery-countys-council-and-school-board\/2018\/05\/16\/fa70d20c-585a-11e8-858f-12becb4d6067_story.html?utm_term=.852e4075f696\">Council At-Large Post endorsees<\/a> (incumbent Hans Riemer and Gabe Albornoz) do not appear.\u00a0 It has no visible authority line.\u00a0 This particular one was distributed in Bethesda but we have no idea how many were handed out.\u00a0 If it indeed lacks an authority line, this ballot violated state election law.\u00a0 It was also misleading because it only partially lists the Council At-Large endorsements.\u00a0 No campaign has admitted responsibility for this flyer.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Illegitimate-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11344\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Illegitimate-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"2250\" height=\"3000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Illegitimate-2.png 2250w, https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Illegitimate-2-225x300.png 225w, https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Washington-Post-Ballot-Illegitimate-2-768x1024.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2250px) 100vw, 2250px\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>We have not seen a &#8220;Washington Post Ballot&#8221; in the past.\u00a0 But if it continues, and if campaigns can agree on funding it, it could conceivably be turned into an alternative to the Apple Ballot.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adam Pagnucco.
