{"id":10799,"date":"2018-06-01T14:50:28","date_gmt":"2018-06-01T18:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=10799"},"modified":"2018-06-01T14:50:53","modified_gmt":"2018-06-01T18:50:53","slug":"the-utter-absurdity-of-vignarajahs-claim-of-deep-support-for-lgbt-marylanders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=10799","title":{"rendered":"The Utter Absurdity of Vignarajah&#8217;s Claim of Deep Support for LGBT Marylanders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Can Krish Vignarajah&#8217;s campaign get any more ridiculous?<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Blade<\/em> published a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonblade.com\/2018\/05\/31\/krishanti-vignarajah-highlights-support-of-lgbt-rights\/\">puff piece on Vignarajah<\/a> in which she touts her deep support for LGBT Marylanders. She has a nice laundry list of policy concerns:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Vignarajah said as governor she would support Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh\u2019s decision to challenge the Trump administration\u2019s efforts to ban trans people from the military.<\/p>\n<p>Vignarajah supports the repeal of Maryland\u2019s sodomy law and would seek to eliminate the provision of the state\u2019s trans rights law that exempts religious institutions and private institutions. Vignarajah\u2019s campaign platform also calls for an end to discrimination against LGBT Marylanders in housing, healthcare, employment, education and public services.<\/p>\n<p>Vignarajah has called for the use of additional funding from Maryland\u2019s general fund to combat homelessness among LGBT youth. She would also support legislation \u201cexplicitly protecting\u201d adoption rights for same-sex couples.<\/p>\n<p>Vignarajah\u2019s platform also calls upon the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration to make it easier for Marylanders to change the gender marker on their driver\u2019s licenses.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Except <strong>she chose not to vote in the 2012 referendum on marriage equality<\/strong>. Despite claiming a strong commitment to LGBT Marylanders and that she would be the most pro-LGBT governor ever, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=10169\">she just couldn&#8217;t be bothered to drive home to Maryland to vote or request an absentee ballot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=9688\">she voted in DC for &#8220;convenience.&#8221;<\/a> By the way, this also means she missed the vote on the Maryland DREAM Act, so perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/krishformaryland.com\/issues\/#family\">we might also ignore<\/a> her commitment to &#8220;Making Maryland the Most Immigrant-Friendly State in America.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>How stupid does she think we are?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can Krish Vignarajah&#8217;s campaign get any more ridiculous?
