A couple days ago, we received a mailer from Council At-Large candidate Hoan Dang.\u00a0 We like Dang very much and might vote for him.\u00a0 But we hate this mailer for three reasons.<\/p>\n

First, the cover doesn\u2019t spotlight the candidate\u2019s name or image.\u00a0 The key function of any mailer is to fix the candidate\u2019s name in the mind of the recipient and couple it with a relatable image.\u00a0 In the case of a positive mailer like this one, a good image would be the candidate, perhaps with family members and a diverse group of supporters.\u00a0 This cover doesn\u2019t do that.\u00a0 Its biggest word is \u201cWhat,\u201d which could mean anything.\u00a0 The candidate\u2019s name is in relatively small print and his picture doesn\u2019t appear.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Next, the mailer does not open easily to the interior content.\u00a0 It was secured by thick tape, preventing your author from opening it without either a) taking a certain amount of time to do it carefully or b) ripping or otherwise destroying the mailer.\u00a0 Dear mail firm guy: if you make it hard to open the mailer, most folks won\u2019t open it.\u00a0 You have just wasted the candidate\u2019s money.\u00a0 All tape of this kind should just be banned.\u00a0 Aside from the difficulty of opening it, we don\u2019t have an issue with the interior other than the word “What” is waaaay bigger than the much more important words “Hoan Dang.”<\/p>\n

Finally, check out the large amount of empty space on the back.\u00a0 It’s not obvious from our image, but the empty space goes all the way to the right side of this page and accounts for a majority of the back cover.\u00a0 Dang is a handsome fellow with a pleasant smile.\u00a0 You want to have a large shot of that smiling face, not a tiny one.\u00a0 All the empty space shows that there was plenty of room to print that.<\/p>\n

We are not criticizing Hoan Dang.\u00a0 He\u2019s a good candidate and a great guy.\u00a0 But this mailer does not do him justice.\u00a0 He deserves better than this!\u00a0 If there\u2019s any opportunity to do so, he should get another mail firm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
