{"id":10507,"date":"2018-05-14T16:00:05","date_gmt":"2018-05-14T20:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=10507"},"modified":"2018-05-14T18:10:50","modified_gmt":"2018-05-14T22:10:50","slug":"these-public-financing-candidates-are-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theseventhstate.com\/?p=10507","title":{"rendered":"These Public Financing Candidates Are Done"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Adam Pagnucco.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> Even though the deadline is May 12, the State Board of Elections <a href=\"https:\/\/www.montgomerycountymd.gov\/BONDS\/Resources\/Files\/Public_Election_Fund_FAQ_V4.pdf\">said on March 30<\/a> that they will allow a candidate to file for matching funds as late as tomorrow (May 15) provided that all qualifying contributions were received by May 12.\u00a0 We will see if any of the above candidates file reports by tomorrow night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Original Post:<\/strong> According to Montgomery County\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.montgomerycountymd.gov\/BONDS\/Resources\/Files\/Public_Election_Fund_FAQ_V4.pdf\">public campaign financing law<\/a>, candidates have until 45 days before the primary election to qualify for public matching funds.\u00a0 Since the primary is on June 26, the qualifying period ended on Saturday, May 12.\u00a0 According to <a href=\"https:\/\/campaignfinancemd.us\/Public\/ViewCommittees\">filings with the State Board of Elections<\/a>, the following candidates did not qualify for matching funds by then and will not be receiving them.<\/p>\n<p>Rosemary Arkoian \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Richard Banach \u2013 District 1<\/p>\n<p>Craig Carozza-Caviness \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Bill Cook \u2013 District 1<\/p>\n<p>Robin Ficker \u2013 County Executive<\/p>\n<p>Lorna Phillips Forde \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Richard Gottfried \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Neil Greenberger \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Harris \u2013 District 5<\/p>\n<p>Kenge Malikidogo-Fludd \u2013 District 5<\/p>\n<p>Jim McGee \u2013 District 1<\/p>\n<p>Melissa McKenna \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Darwin Romero \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Bethesda Magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bethesdamagazine.com\/Bethesda-Beat\/2018\/Several-Candidates-Found-Ineligible-for-Montgomery-Countys-Public-Campaign-Financing-System\/\">reported<\/a> that these candidates were ruled ineligible for matching funds because their submissions to the State Board of Elections did not meet the thresholds of either in-county contributors or in-county money received to qualify.<\/p>\n<p>Shruti Bhatnagar \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Loretta Garcia \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Paul Geller \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Michele Riley \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>Tim Willard \u2013 At-Large<\/p>\n<p>These eighteen candidates represent almost half of the thirty-eight active candidates in public financing.\u00a0 Starved of resources and unable to get their messages out, none of them will be elected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Adam Pagnucco.
